Located in Farmville, NC, our mission is simple: to keep the timeless tradition of southern wingshooting alive through exceptional bird fields, hard-flying game, and elite hunting dogs.
Our Roots in Southern Wingshooting
Sandy Run Outdoors was founded by avid outdoorsman Sterling Pippin, whose deep passion for bird hunting stems from childhood traditions. As wild bird numbers declined throughout North Carolina, Sterling and his family transitioned to hunting preserves to keep their bird dogs sharp and active in the field.
As a young man, Sterling had the unique privilege of training English Pointers under the mentorship of Robert Carraway, the respected owner of Quail Ridge Shooting Preserve. Mr. Robert instilled in him the time-honored, “old school” fundamentals of reading a dog's cues using a simple rope long before modern e-collars existed. While advanced technology now plays an integral role in our modern steadiness training, those core, foundational dog-handling principles remain the backbone of everything we do today.
